In the context of the current 2023 RSPO Standards Review, RSPO convenes a dialogue on how sustainability standards will balance the needs of people, planet and prosperity to create a prosperous future for all. This session will explore varying, and at times divergent, expectations of ‘sustainability’, differing sectoral perspectives and the shared responsibility to work towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.

In this session, we life our head over the horizon of our daily work and look ahead to the future. Based on specific data and trend analysis we will make a number of qualified assumptions and present the development of the sustainable palm oil market, human population and other trends by 2050. We will then ask the question: how can RSPO maintain its relevance for the sustainable palm oil market in the coming decades.

Operationalising Labour Standards in the Palm Oil Sector
In this plenary session, the panellist will explore the topic of operationalisation and implementation of labour standards by growers. This session will also provide an overview of the challenges in implementing labour standards within the palm oil sector including labour shortage, recruitment fees and forced labour, and how to narrow the existing gaps in the implementation of the RSPO standards.
